Christmas Play - 20th Dec'17

We were thrilled to put on our Christmas play "Children of the World" on Wednesday. We had worked hard on our singing in the weeks leading up to it and thankfully it all went off well - and the electricity stayed on just long enough for us to perform!

Sebastian Kania has once again kindly taken photographs of the occasion and shared them at the following link:

Entering the Bizworld

We had a fantastic two days with Caroline from Bank of Ireland. The children worked in teams to learn and undertake the tasks involved in setting up a business. They first had to agree on what product or service to produce and then negotiate the roles, responsibilities and structures of a company. Finally, they had the chance to practise and present their financial and marketing strategy to a recognised business person (“The dragon”) at the end of the workshop. During the program, each pupil had the opportunity to work on improving their communication, logical thinking and confidence building skills in a dynamic and fun learning environment.

Welcome Back!

We have been back to school for over a week now and it's been a busy few days! We have been familiarising ourselves with our new books and rules and routines. Don't forget that parents can visit the classroom for a look around if you wish on our "Drop in Tuesdays" which are always on the first school Tuesday of every month. Here are some pictures of our first day back, there was a lot of catching up with friends and telling tales of great summer holidays!

School Tour to Brigit's Garden

We had a fantastic day in Brigit's Garden. The weather was great and we learned all about nature. We learned about the animals and plants that live in gardens, woodlands and ponds. We played games and we laughed. We visited a cave and some of us got a little fright! We mixed magic potions and created clay minibeasts. We sang and we played musical instruments. We ran and we ran and we ran. We're going to sleep so well tonight!

Intercultural Week and Latvia Project

We learned about Latvia for Intercultural Week. Artur's mum came in to talk to us and answer our questions. We learned how to find it on the map, about its plants and animals and spied some creepy crawlies that have been trapped in amber for thousands of years. Then we had a feast of food on Friday. Thanks to all our wonderful parents for sending in food. It was delicious!

St Patrick's Day

We had great fun celebrating St. Patrick's Day and watching the performance of our Irish dancers and school band. We really embraced the wearing of the green!

Grandparent's Day

We were delighted to welcome our grandparents and family to our classroom on Wednesday. We made some handprint art and coloured some special pictures for them. We asked them questions about their memories of school and we also performed two songs. We love our grandparents and learn so much from them!!

Mindful Movements

We have had several Mindful Movements sessions the last few weeks with our teacher Michelle. She guides us through a series of poses and movements and we are learning to better control our breathing, our bodies and our minds. It is also great fun. We love the crocodile pose....snap, snap!!

Operation Transformation Walk

Our Doughiska community has a new walking club and on Monday morning, all the boys and girls in our school and Merlin College joined them for a walk around the football pitches. First, we did our stretches in the yard and then we posed for a huge group photograph. We were then led out by our school band. It was wonderful way to start our week!
